Fall 2010 trends- DARK

The 90's gothics have grown up and have become today's designers and consumers. Burton in their eyes, dark and romantic readings in their heads, dreaming of a soft and obscure cocoon, they mix their world with the one surrounding them. The dark side of fashion is then expressed with sharp cuts, lace and gossamer in black waterfalls, simplicity and wildness. The most representative designers are Alexander Wang, Gareth Pugh, Rick Owens, Threeasfour or Meadham Kirchhoff, the precursors are Ann Demeulemeester, Comme des garçons or Yohji Yamamoto.
Gloomy punk girl à-la-tank girl in Jeremy Scott show, discreet lace girl with Elie Saab, Corpse bride with Meadham Kirchhoff or witch in a mantle with Haider Ackermann, the creatures of the night who hided so long and deeply emerge from the designers' subconcious to take over the podiums for a dream's moment. The fabrics crawl and roll over models, devour, entwine them, hide them, unveil them, as the night plays to disguise or reveal the most intimate secrets. Because fashion is the most superficial thing, but also the most intimate matter in our lives.

When H&M 2010 meets Alexander McQueen 2009

H&M Fall 2010

We all know that departement stores as H&M use to "get inspired" by designers, but we expect the fashion show trends to get a little faster to the streets! In H&M's next fall preview, a pair of pants got my attention. It was quite similar to fabric prints one could see on Summer 2009 Alexander McQueen's pants, so one year late! When Balmain shoulder pads jackets imitations and cat fabrics "à-la-Miu MIu" hang in zara store the season it was launched by designers, we get used to reach the latest trends easily. Does low-budget fashionistas' impatience has an impact on the way fashion evolves in departement stores? When one knows that from the moment a piece of clothe is designed to the moment it arrives in the store, it only took 2 weeks for Zara, what exclusivity is left for those who launched the trend? Does this increase their sales or does this devalues them? A new way of consuming is rising, with new patterns, which reminds me a lot of the licences system that emerged in the 50's. The question is the same: what does it bring to get copied? Are the fallouts positive, as it was for Dior in the 50's (the first one to work with licences), or may it devalue the luxury of the name, as it happend to Pierre Cardin?

Fall 2010 trends- FUR

After the coldest winter ever, designers decided to keep us warm!
Some of them bring us back to times when every lady had a fur coat in her wardrobe. 20's to 60's inspirations, fur transforms us into early hollywood movie stars.
Some others just wanna rock their fur. The fur coat is short, and must be worn with leather pants, fancy hair or army boots. Rock stars and groupies will never be cold again.
Eventually, the most curious fall's fur trend is definitely the "bigfoot" trend, or "Chubaka" trend (your choice). With climate changes concerns, has the north pole become a fashionable holiday destination? Or is this the designers' view of a future where we will have to learn to fit in a changing world?
